This picture was taken in the mountains near Colorado Springs at a parking area just off the Gold Camp road near the top of Cheyenne Canyon. The Pike’s Peak granite is very soft and crumbly, and my guess is that the exposed hillside left when the space was cleared for the parking lot has simply disintegrated leaving this very unique erosion feature. It almost looks like the Badlands of South Dakota or something. This photograph is free for any use.
